How to filter in Business Central.

Filtering data in Nav.

Using filters in business central can seem overwhelming at first and to be honest its a not as easy as other finance systems such as Sage.

However once you get to understand them and how to use them they offer so much better analysis – you will forget any other system.

The last A Boardroom Mum’s post covered date filters and I will link below, this post is going to cover the filtering data functionality.

The Either or function |

This allows you to search for multiple items at the same time and it will show either or both if there.

This is useful say you want to search for multiple items at once or you are unsure what the amount or name is so you want to try and search for multiple options.

As you can see you can add multiple options at once.

The next function is a finance favourite – filter the data to show any value other than 0.

I personally use this all the time for filtering Chart Of Accounts to show only the G/L Accounts that have a balance in.

What is the formula;

Less than or greater than zero

For the next filter lets walk through a scenario you need to find a customer called Smith but you cannot remember if it is Smith or Smyth.

And you have thousands of customers.

You can use a unknown character filter to find this customer.

Enter into the search bar sm?th

The ? allows you to search for an unknown character.
