Microsoft Business Central – Where is my transaction list?

The holy grail of any finance system is the audit trail, in Microsoft Business Central it can appear to be hidden if no one tells you where to find it.

With Sage you click transactions and can see the full Audit Trail.

Moving from Sage to the Business Central can seem daunting as it is a much larger system and in some aspects can seem more complex.

This blog is here to help I myself was a Sage through and through accountant until I a took a role that used Business Central and now I am a consultant for this system.

Business Central is also know as Dynamics and the old version Nav.

So save this blog and pop back with our new articles helping your work life easier using this system.

🙌🙂

What is the audit trail?

The audit trail is the full list of every transaction that has been processed and posted within the system.

In Sage here you can delete transactions and they will still be shown here but in red.

With Business Central you cannot delete transactions but you reverse them.

Please keep an eye out for A Boardroom Mum’s articles on various “how to do’s” corrections in Business Central.

Where can I find my transactions / audit trail in Microsoft Business Central?

We are going to talk through two ways of find this within the system.

Option 1

Under the settings cog in the top right hand corner on the black bar make sure you are in the role Business Manager.

Click the three lines at the top of your screen under the black Dynamics 365 Business Central;

Under the Home section you can see at the bottom there is General Ledger Entries.

Click this and this will open your audit trail or list of transactions.

It will look something like the below although this is fully customizable so could look slightly different for you.

Option 2

Click the magnifying glass to open up the search option

Type – General Ledger Entries

As you can see when you start to type suggestions pop up.

Under – Go to Reports and Analysis you will see General Ledger Entries at the top.

Click this to take you there.

And that is how you find your audit trail in Microsoft Business Central.

It is worth noting that within Business Central you have sub ledgers in addition to these transactions.

I will be writing a post on these sub ledgers and how to access this data using Rapid Start, in the coming weeks.

If this post was useful to you please share with others that may benefit too, this blog is in its infancy and I would grateful as this will help grow it and enable me to make more and more useful content.
